Aksharapadeeyam – Episode 4

There are few aspects that have been puzzling the philosophers, linguists, and thinkers for thousands of years. The issue is concerning the relationship between “Thought and Expression,” “Sounds within and Words articulated,” “Linguistic potency and Linguistic competence within us,” “Origin of Word and Worldly Languages.”

Often it is believed that languages serve as vehicles of thoughts for expression. Two major aspects are to be addressed to understand ‘thought’ and ‘language’ and their different dimensions – “Philosophy of language” and “Philosophical psychology.”

We, as humans know that we think in terms of languages and words, we make an effort to understand the process.  There are two major components in linguistic communications – 1. Thought and language as components for expression in linguistic communications and 2. Thought and language as conceptual components of communication. Considering these two aspects scholars conceived.

Pratishakhya to Sheeksha grantha-s to Panini Theory to BhartRhari to Pandit Viswanadha Rayalu of 1996 – stretched the aspect to sequential process of Language formation. These theories give a comprehensive view to explicate the idea of meaning.

My intention is to follow my Guru Pandit Viswanadha Rayalu, shed more light on “Aksharavaada,” and Akshara at all levels with reverence to the Scholars of the past.

Five stages that follow the thought process:

1. What part of mind makes the units of utterance?

2. How is the meaning that is intended is understood by the listener?

3.  What is the form of sound that is actually conveyed?

4. What is heard and what is understood as meaning?

5. What is happening between speaker and listener Oral communication processes will not directly transfer the contents of the intention or thought.

The “competence” stimulating the inherent ability to gain Akshara intended within Human beings will do the needful. That Akshara shakthi propels specific Akshara units intended for the meaning, to transfer the meaning for explicit act. The tongue can jump to any articulation point in the oral cavity and pick up consonants, before the Vowel joins in a very systematic, organized orderly way.

Every Akshara has specific purpose, specified meaning to carry and convey.  All variations and characteristics of Akshara reflect the strands of meanings.
Life is a continuum of efforts, actions and events. Area of articulation is the area where all actions and events gain expressible verbal sound forms. ‘The speech action’ is representative of all thoughts and actions, life of an individual at personal level, and the world at collective level.
